Théodore Frère painted almost exclusively Orientalist pictures, being one of the few French artists to have painted Beirut, Jerusalem, Damascus, and Palmyra.
He exhibited in Paris at the Salon from 1834 to 1881, took part in the Paris Universal Exhibitions of 1855, 1867 and 1878, and then at the Salon des Artistes Français until 1887.
