Dedicated to “Madame Bouland” and countersigned “TH. Frère” on the back.
Théodore Frère painted almost exclusively Orientalist pictures, being one of the few French artists to have painted Beirut, Jerusalem, Damascus and Palmyra.
He exhibited in Paris at the Salon from 1834 to 1881, and took part in the Paris Universal Exhibitions of 1855, 1867 and 1878, then at the Salon des Artistes Français until 1887.
