Particularly known for his orientalist or antique subjects featuring young women or girls in gardens or courtyards, he can be likened to the Pre-Raphaelite movement, but his subjects are lighter. Along with Harrison Weir, Wolf and other artists, he provided illustrations for the Reverend J. G. Wood's natural history books. He exhibited from 1865 to 1870.
